The Flow of Industry | Mirage
I went to Morocco in February ‘24 for some rest & recovery in the winter sun. After the first day, we were ready to experience the sublime sunset that we paid for. The sublime experience that we’re all promised. We walked up to a hill at the far end of the resort area, as we got to the crest of the hill; It was not the sublime scene imagined. We were greeted with concrete, iron rebars, half built dwellings, terraformed hills and ground that had not seen water for years. We were greeted by the expansion of the resort, hidden by the mirage of the lush green foliage and pools of the complex.
The project is a poetic response to the feelings stirred up by going over the crest of that hill. It is the start of an investigation into how the climate crisis, industry, quality of life & water are locally interwoven; something that is airbrushed from the tourist experience but they are all so enmeshed that cracks in the sublime mirage start to show through.
