Dairy Monologues | A Winter Prologue
The Dairy Monologues is a work in progress - part personal investigation, part internal monologue, delving into the many conversations, narratives & histories woven into agricultural & rural space and more poignantly the stories the farm itself holds. It seeks out intersections within them and how they can weave together to tell a story of Pictor Hall Farm and its approach to dairying as well as the broader dairy industry & its legacy
Winter is a time of stillness- a season of dormancy & reflection. In this small fragment of a larger ongoing body of work time is given to meditate on the site’s histories and mediate on how the subtle intersections of past and present converge in small moments that might otherwise go unnoticed; too dormant to yet map out and unravel the paths towards a future. Winter offers a pause from reflection, preparing for the cycle to turn a full revolution in spring
Pictor Hall Farm is an ethical dairy farm located on the threshold of the Peak District National Park, just outside of Buxton. Committed to regenerative farming practices, the farm has a deep rooted history-the hall itself dates back to the 1700s. It has been a working dairy farm since the 1970s run solely by Wendy for decades. It is now run by Alistair, who acquired it only in December 2024 after working the site, closely with Wendy, for 9 years.
