The Phantasmagoria of I.D. | Act 1- Oppidan Thoughts

This project sees me take on the role of an imaginary character, I.D., to expand on an imaginary narrative to explore local environments in a place riddled with history and heritage- Stockport. I.D. realises Stockport is a conduit for his creative output, he starts to visually investigate fragmented dreams, clues of his new home and of his ancestral heritage.

The body of work is a multifaceted approach to investigating and understanding space, place, the conscious and the notion of home. Although I had been photographing Stockport for many years prior to this project, this was the first time I had lived in Stockport. It was also project of self discovery, learning my paternal family emigrated from Ireland to settle in Stockport. This project helped me reconnect with my paternal family as well as navigate personal issues and interests.

This Project completed in 2017. It was shot on film in its entirety, unfortunately some of the negatives

have been misplaced during a workshop, I was facilitating, on silver gelatine printing in 2020.
